You have to add New York Caribbean Carnival Week to your ‘Must Do’ list this summer. You simply must; after-all you have not experienced the best that Brooklyn has to offer unless you are front and center at this legendary cultural event. It’s truly a fun and memorable experience that will leave you craving more of everything Caribbean. Now in its 47th year, the New York Caribbean Carnival, produced by the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA) features highly anticipated music concerts showcasing internationally acclaimed performing artists, masterfully crafted traditional costumes, Caribbean cuisine, art and cultural parades. The carnival brings together the rich heritage of the Caribbean, while celebrating the many contributions of the Caribbean diaspora. The festivities begin on Thursday, Aug. 28 and runs through Monday, Sept. 1 featuring outdoor dance concerts, colorful Caribbean costumes, culture, cuisine, music and competitions, all culminating in the New York Caribbean Carnival — Brooklyn’s “Greatest Show on Earth”!

Thursday, Aug. 28

Caribbean Woodstock: A Celebration of Light

Doors Open: 6:00 p.m.; Showtime: 7:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.

This is the official kick-off event for Caribbean Carnival Week festivities and will feature popular artists from the Caribbean. Confirmed acts for this year include Skinny Banton, Adrian Dutchin, Problem Child, Ricardo Drue, Mickey, Zouk & the Gang, Statement, Surette Bon Bon, Boodoosingh Tassa Drummers and more! Complete with traditional Ole’ Mas and Individual costume competitions, Caribbean Woodstock celebrates a new vision while paying homage to traditional folklore.

Friday, Aug. 29

Stay In School—Youth Fest/College Fair – 11:00 a.m.

This talent show-case highlights leaders of tomorrow as they perform hip-hop, dance, steelband, karate, fashion, spoken word and much more. The ultimate goal of this event is to encourage young people to pursue education and develop their talents.

Brass Fest 2014

Doors Open: 6:00 p.m.; Showtime: 8:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.

Featuring the finest Caribbean musicians/acts all in one outdoor party, the signature Brass Fest concert/party features direct from Ghana for the first time Blakk Rasta, Teddyson John and the TJ Project, Red Fyah Band, Skinny Fabulous, Lyrikal, Patrice Roberts, Farmer Nappy, Rayzor and headliner Machel Montano HD. Cool Caribbean vibes and high energy provided by DJ’s Sounds 4 Life, Barrie Hype, and Spice!

Kiddies Carnival Parade

9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Look out for the annual Kiddies Carnival parade winding through the heart of Crown Heights and ending at the Brooklyn Museum grounds. Show your support for youth presenters as they honor their culture.

Panorama 2014

Doors Open: 6:00 p.m.; Showtime: 8:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.

Enjoy the rhythms of sweet steelband music as the finest steel orchestras in N.Y. gather to present a competitive steelband showdown to win the 2014 Panorama Championship crown.

Sunday, Aug. 31

Dimanche Gras: The Legends Are Coming!

Doors Open: 6:00 p.m.; Showtime: 7:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.

Dimanche Gras is the final concert in the series and features the King and Queen of the bands competition, and winners from previous nights, featuring performances from Caribbean living legends like The Mighty Sparrow, King David Rudder, Lord Nelson along with Lima Calbio, Leon Coldero, Lennox Picou and the Sunshine Band!

Monday, Sept. 1

New York Caribbean Carnival: Welcome to the Greatest Carnival in North America!

Eastern Parkway & Schenectady Avenue to Flatbush Ext.: 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Come experience the crown jewel of New York Caribbean Carnival week featuring costume bands, masqueraders, moko jumbies, floats, delicious Caribbean cuisine and much more.
