Three West Indies cricketers have been named in a World Twenty20 XI. They are Trinidad and Tobago leg-spinner Samuel Badree, captain Darren Sammy and Jamaican Krishmar Santokie, who was named 12th man in the squad.
Badree was the Caribbean’s leading wicket-taker in the recent ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, with 11 wickets at a miserly average of 10.27.
The leg-spinner, who opened the bowling and regularly got early wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 5.65 said he was “delighted” to have made the World Twenty20 best 11.
Badree was ranked as the No. 1 Twenty20s bowler recently and was the lone Trinidadian to have been selected on the all-star team.
While Sammy could not lead his team to a successful defense of the title they won in Sri Lanka in 2012, the all-rounder was recognized for his consistent and dynamic batting that earned him an average of 101.00 at a strike rate of 224.4.
Sammy’s high score of 42 not out against Pakistan helped the West Indies set up an 84-run win that guaranteed them a semi-final spot.
Santokie, a left-arm seamer got honorable mention from the selection panel headed by match referee, the former Australian batsman David Boon, when he was named as the 12th man.
On the women’s side, the West Indies also secured two selections in batters Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin.
